Renewal by Andersen®, together with our parent company Andersen® Corporation, are among the first replacement window companies that have received the Green Seal Certification for Environmental Stewardship. In today’s post, local replacement windows company Renewal by Andersen of Denver shares a look at our commitment to helping the environment that led to this designation.
Today’s Environmental Challenges
Being environmentally responsible is not without its challenges. The following are some of the challenges we face in this regard:
Sustainability — Products with long life cycles benefit the environment in many ways, such as helping slow down the rate landfills get filled. Renewal by Andersen offers sustainable replacement windows that have longer than average expected life spans supported by our Transferable Limited Warranties.
Renewing existing housing — Today’s homes use more energy and have higher carbon emission levels than automobiles. Using renewable resources such as installing energy-efficient replacement windows can help reduce your home’s carbon footprint.
Responsible manufacturing — Our exclusive Fibrex® material is a composite made of wood fibers and polymer. At least 40% of the wood fibers we use are reclaimed from Andersen’s wood manufacturing facilities, while the polymer also contains a significant amount of recycled material. Likewise, our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass contains at least 12% recycled glass by weight.
Smart use of energy — Almost half of an average home’s energy budget is spent on heating and cooling costs. Renewal by Andersen replacement windows help reduce heat leaks that contribute to higher energy consumption.
Helping the environment is not a small commitment, which is why we have partnered with other organizations with the same goal:
The National Fenestration Rating Council — The NFRC is a non-profit organization that certifies energy efficiency in fenestrations (windows, entry doors and skylights). Their certification labels allow consumers to identify fenestrations that meet their home’s needs.
ENERGY STAR® — ENERGY STAR is an initiative between the Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ENERGY STAR certification allows consumers to easily identify energy-efficient products, from electronics to home improvements, at point-of-purchase.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — Our parent company Andersen Corporation is a recognized charter member of the U.S. EPA’s Environmental Performance Track initiative. Our commitment to reducing volatile organic compounds at our facilities is monitored through the Andersen XL program, based on the U.S. EPA’s own Project XL.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — LEED is the certification program for eco-friendly residential and commercial buildings. It is founded by the U.S. Green Building Council, which has certified properties built with Renewal by Andersen replacement windows.
